Scholarships and Student Aid

Awards are available to help offset educational costs

Cedar Point Federal Credit Union® offers scholarships for graduating seniors in St. Mary’s, Calvert and Charles Counties. These Scholarships are offered through St. Mary’s County Business, Education and Community Alliance (BECA), Calvert Local Scholarship Application (CLSA), and Charles County Scholarship Fund, Inc.

The application pages for each county contain a wealth of information in addition to the common application (used to apply for a number of local scholarships) managed by their respective organizations. You’ll also find a list of available scholarships, as well as links to financial aid sources and other educational websites.

 

St. Mary’s County

Cedar Point offers four scholarships through the St. Mary’s County Business, Education and Community Alliance (BECA) common application. These scholarships are established to aid and encourage further education:

  • Spark Scholarship: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of St. Mary's County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Priority for the scholarship will be given to those who choose a vocational, technical, or trade school.
  • Visionary Scholarship: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of St. Mary's County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Applicant must be a member of Cedar Point Federal Credit Union® or willing to open an account.
  • Vibrant Vision Scholarship: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of St. Mary's County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • The Robert Clements Memorial Scholarship by CPFS: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $500. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of St. Mary's County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Calvert County

Cedar Point offers three scholarships through the Calvert Local Scholarship Application (CLSA). These scholarships are established to aid and encourage further education:

  • Beacon Scholarship: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Calvert County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • Bright Future Scholarship: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Calvert County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • Future Leader Scholarship: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Calvert County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Charles County

Cedar Point offers three scholarships through Charles County Scholarship Fund, Inc. These scholarships are established to aid and encourage further education:

  • Horizon Seeker Scholarship: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Charles County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Applicant must be a member of Cedar Point Federal Credit Union or be willing to open an account.
  • Infinite Potential Scholarship: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Charles County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.
  • Journey in Excellence Scholarship: The recipient of this scholarship will receive $1000. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who is a resident of Charles County with a GPA of 3.0 or greater. Priority for the scholarship will be given to those who choose education in a Trade career.

The St. Mary’s County Business, Education and Community Alliance Scholarship Fair was on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at USMSM. Cedar Point presented information on our scholarships for local high school seniors. We hope to see you at next year’s fair.
 

 

Credit Union Foundation of MD | DC Scholarship

The CU Foundation MD|DC, a public charity serving local credit unions and their members, is sponsoring the 2025 $12,000 Credit Union College Scholarship Program. Cedar Point members are eligible to apply!

Cedar Point members may apply for one of ten $1,000 essay-based scholarships and/or one of two $1,000 video-based scholarships. Eligible members may apply in both categories.

Essay: The 2025 topic for essay applicants is: "Credit unions play a significant role in promoting financial wellness among their members. How do you believe credit unions contribute to the financial health and stability of individuals and communities? Discuss specific benefits and provide examples or personal experiences to illustrate their impact."

Video: The 2025 topic for video applicants is: "Create a 60-second video depicting how credit unions contribute to the financial health and stability of individuals and communities."

Scholarship winners were announced in June 2025.

  • Fastweb – This search platform connects students to scholarships for colleges and trade schools, as well as financial aid news and resources.
  • Federal Student Aid Grants – The federal government provides grants for students attending college or career school.

 

Student Aid

Individual universities also have their own scholarships, grants and work study programs awarded via the information received through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

To explore what a university has to offer, you may want to ensure your student meets with a Financial Aid Counselor at the university he/she is interested in attending.
